My Friend
I have this friend that I met recently. He is different from most people I have ever met.
He always has energy to do things. He works all day, comes home and digs in the yard, then chases little kids around till they drop (not easy to do if you have ever been around energetic 2, 4, and 5 year olds), and then after wrestling them into bed he goes and works out for a while as well.
This guy doesn’t look like he has a bit of fat on his body. Yet he eats whatever he wants!
The crazy thing is that he looks pretty impressive as well. In a suit, in ratty workout clothes or on the beach!
I asked him what his secret was. How did he stay healthy and have energy all the time to look and feel like superman!?!
We sat down and he told me about how he had discovered a secret trick to losing belly fat that changed his life.
The thing was I could tell he was totally joking with me! He was yanking my chain!
After I got through all the joking and teasing he told me how he had always been unhealthy like we talked about before.
Then one day something happened that changed everything for him.
You see what happened is that he found out that one of his brothers was getting married. For some reason he desperately didn’t want to look fat at the wedding. Now he wasn’t necessarily incredibly overweight but when he looked in the mirror he wasn’t happy and he didn’t want to feel like that at his brothers wedding!
So he had a big event he needed to look good for. He tried out several diets and exercise programs and things started to get a little better. He saw a bit of progress but he knew it wasn’t going to be enough. Then he started to have thoughts like “he was doing good enough and that if he didn’t reach this goal it was okay”.
Fortunately those thoughts didn’t get a hold of his actions. He remember how these thoughts had ruined his efforts to get in shape before. He decided that what he was trying wasn’t working right for him. Then he tried something else. Still it didn’t work. Then again he tried something else.
After he spun his wheels for a few months he realized he was making no progress at all. He realized that he had fallen into a trap of trying something for a few days or weeks and then giving up and looking for the next thing that would be a quick fix.
The problem was that this process in the past had led him ultimately to failure and just giving up. He had to reach his goal and he new this pathway wasn’t going to lead to his success, just his wallet being thinner and his body a bit more tired and overweight.
This time he had to succeed. He only had a few months before the wedding.
He looked at everything he had tried and realized that the lose weight, look great, get 6 pack abs type programs he had used all had a few simple things in common.
And boy was he surprised!
