Luckily I don’t have to tackle the destiny of unusual living in all forms. This is all about this website. I am going to present to you a little about me and what the purpose of this site is and the planned end results.
I am by all respects a pretty average person who is conscientiously choosing to live in some unusual ways. This website is all about some of my ideas and methods for unusual living that have led to a better life for me and my family.
So who am I?
- I am a husband, father, brother, son, and grandson.
- I have three kids at the time of this writing that are 3 (almost 4), 1 (almost 2) and 3 months old.
- I drive a van.
- I live in a condominium with a horrendous home owners association (thank goodness I am only renting here).
These are things about me that make me pretty average when compared to everyone else.
Very unusual about me:
- I just finished my Masters degree and while doing that added two kids to my family. I also added no additional debt besides our car.
- I was able to graduate as the number one student in my program with 9 extra credits overall and did so working only 10 hours a day.
- Traveled as a family to 11 national parks and 7 states for more than 80 days of vacation with my family while working on my masters degree.
- Was able to go camping for more that 65 nights while working on my masters degree.
- Have managed to exist now for 28 years, 3 months, and 19 days without a cell phone.
- In the last three years I have read more than 150 books that weren’t directly related to my masters degree (read more than 50 that were a part of my course work and research)
- I ride my bicycle to work rather than driving.
- Voluntarily served for 2 years on a church mission that I and my family paid for.
That doesn’t complete the list but it gives an idea why I am unusual when compared to other people.
So what is the point of this site? It is to talk about unusual ways of living that have made my life better and that may help to improve the quality of life of others. This site is also a personal project for me to cogently consider how I live my life, and to see what I can do differently for the better. For me it also is a time of transition. I am now moving from being a student to full time employment. This presents several life changes and now is the easiest time to positively shape my life.
I have said it before but here it is again. I believe that many of these ideas can benefit others who are willing to live a bit unusually.
The following list is what you can expect from Unusual Living in the next year and what I will use to track this projects success for myself:
- There will be 25,000 words of high quality content in at least 50 posts presented in a short essay format that will focus on Unusual Living practices and ideas.
- In time there will be an email newsletter that gives a regular update to ideas from this site as well as additional content.
- Develop a following of 500 people that enjoy these ideas and can have the opportunity to contribute their own.
The other thing is this site isn’t about me making money. It is about me figuring a better way to live and helping others as well. If there is something that I can offer people that will bring me money while they benefit, then that is great. Otherwise this is my project of doing good for others at no benefit to myself which I feel enriches myself more than money.
While I am working on this site/project I will be pursuing quite a few other goals and objectives. I will be trying to continue traveling. I will be helping my three kids along with myself figure out this world and to find what makes us happiest. I have another hobby obsession that has been going on much longer than this site that I will continue to pursue.
This site already has really changed how I think. My thoughts on life are getting a bit clearer. I feel like with each post I have really poured my thoughts and soul out. For me this project is already a success, and I hope that you enjoy it as well.
